Baseball Recap: Northeast Guilford Comes Up Short

The home team had come away the winner the last six times Northeast Guilford and Dudley had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Rams fell 6-1 to the Panthers on Wednesday. Having soared to a lofty 15 runs in the game before, the Rams couldn't push the score so high this time.

Josh Jones was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. He is becoming a predictor of Northeast Guilford's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 2-1 (and 7-9 when he doesn't). Jones was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with three stolen bases.

In other batting news, Caiden McNeil and Damir Woolridge stepped up to the plate in a big way. McNeil scored a run and stole three bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances, while Woolridge went a perfect 1-for-1 with three stolen bases. McNeil has become a key player for Northeast Guilford: the team is 6-3 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 3-7 otherwise.

Northeast Guilford now has a losing record of 9-10. As for Dudley, their win bumped their record up to 8-6.

While Northeast Guilford had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
