Arcata is a perfect 3-0 against Etna since March of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Tigers will look to defend their home field against the Lions at 2:00 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Arcata played in-conference for the first time on Wednesday and got just the result they were looking for. They had just enough and edged out Eureka 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Tigers have posted since May 1, 2024.
Meanwhile, Etna entered their tilt with Weed on Tuesday with six consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with seven. They were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Cougars. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won seven matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Emmitt Griggs made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-4.
In other batting news, Emmett Stacher was incredible, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 3-for-4. Those two home runs gave him a new career-high. Oliver Griggs was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.
Etna was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .484. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .375 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Etna pushed their record up to 10-3 with the victory, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Arcata, their victory bumped their record up to 8-4.
Arcata took their win against Etna in their previous matchup back in April of 2023 by a conclusive 15-5 score. Do the Tigers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lions turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
