Softball Recap: Whiteville Gets the Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Lumberton, Whiteville was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Heide Trask Titans, sneaking past 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Wolfpack have posted against the Titans since April 29, 2022.

Madalyn Edge spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits.

At the plate, Whiteville's victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Greylynn Cartrette, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits Cartrette has posted since back in April of 2024.

Whiteville pushed their record up to 3-6 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Heide Trask, their loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 7-2.

Whiteville didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 13-3 win against West Columbus on the 25th. As for Heide Trask, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, a 15-0 victory against Northside - Jacksonville on the 25th.
