While Leyden didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-22), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. Everything went their way against the Proviso East Pirates on Thursday as they made off with a 13-1 win. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Pirates recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.

Christopher Matz spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up eight Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Jonathan Rosas was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. Tyler Koenig was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run.

Leyden kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Leyden's record is now 8-5. As for Proviso East, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Leyden will take on York at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Proviso East, they will challenge Oak Park-River Forest at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Huskies will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something the Pirates surely won't give up without a fight.
