Baseball Recap: University Lab Drops Season-High Score on Madison Prep Academy

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask University Lab). They never let Madison Prep Academy get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory on Tuesday. The win was familiar territory for the Cubs, who have now won nine contests in a row.

Luke Ewing was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, University Lab got a big performance out of Lane Mixon, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2. Mixon has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Jaris Hamilton, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

University Lab always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .581. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

University Lab pushed their record up to 19-7 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Madison Prep Academy, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-16.

Looking ahead, University Lab and Catholic will meet on Thursday for a tough Bear Battle. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Cubs 2.9, the Bears 2.1) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Madison Prep Academy, they will take on Mays at 3:30 p.m. on Monday.
