Football Preview: Spring Creek Spartans vs. Fernley Vaqueros
The Spring Creek Spartans will challenge the Fernley Vaqueros at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
Spring Creek is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Churchill County just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Friday. They fell 21-14 to the Greenwave. Despite 76 more yards than the Greenwave, the Spartans couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Landon Boyle, who rushed for 55 yards and a touchdown, and also picked up 46 receiving yards.
Spring Creek wouldn't let Churchill County keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force two fumbles. Spring Creek can thank Snowdon Bear Williams and Colton Cunningham for forcing both of them.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Fernley). They blew past Lowry, posting a 79-47 win on the road. The victory was nothing new for the Vaqueros as they're now sitting on three straight.
It was another big night for Keeshawn Love, who rushed for 526 yards and seven touchdowns while picking up 15.0 yards per carry. He really tore up the turf during one magnificent 90-yard run. Bryce Stephens was another key player, rushing for 143 yards and three touchdowns on only seven carries.
Spring Creek's loss dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Fernley, the win got them back to even at 4-4.
