Softball Game Preview: Beaufort Eagles vs. Fort Dorchester Patriots

The Beaufort Eagles will head out to face off against the Fort Dorchester Patriots at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Beaufort will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Wednesday, then bounced right back against Hilton Head Island on Friday. Beaufort never let Hilton Head Island get on the board and left with a 14-0 victory. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Seahawks recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Beaufort got a massive performance out of Kyra Raines, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. Caylin Adkins also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.

Beaufort hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Meanwhile, Fort Dorchester faced West Ashley in a battle between two of the state's top teams last Friday. Fort Dorchester blew past West Ashley 9-2. The Patriots' victory was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.

Mila Lorenzano spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Hailey Greatrex, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Ashton Giet was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one home run and one double.

Fort Dorchester pushed their record up to 10-0 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Beaufort, their record is now 4-6.
