Baseball Recap: Gilford Beats Inter-Lakes for Their Third Straight Victory

Gilford entered their tilt with Inter-Lakes on Wednesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They were the clear victors by a 17-7 margin over the Lakers. With that victory, the Golden Eagles brought their scoring average up to 6.5 runs per game.

Ryan Folan was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off only one hit. He is becoming a predictor of Gilford's success: when he allows at most three hits the team is 2-1 (and 1-2 when he doesn't). Folan was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That stolen base was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Drew Smith was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Jack Hazelton also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Gilford always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .636. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Gilford pushed their record up to 3-3 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Inter-Lakes, they are on a 13-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-10.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gilford will head out to face off against Somersworth at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Inter-Lakes, they will venture away from home to take on Hillsboro-Deering at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
