Basketball Recap: Archbishop Bergan Sets Scoring Season-High Against South Sioux City

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Archbishop Bergan). Everything went their way against the South Sioux City Cardinals on Thursday as the Archbishop Bergan Knights made off with a 72-51 win. The Knights have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four matchups by 21 points or more this season.

Leading Archbishop Bergan to victory were Gavin Baker and Cale Sheets. Baker dropped a double-double on 18 points and 13 boards, while Sheets posted 17 points. Those 13 rebounds gave Baker a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Trey Mooney, who earned nine points.

South Sioux City's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Jamison Housman, who went 6 of 14 on his way to 14 points, and Prestin Blackhawk, who had 16 points. Another player making a difference was Jaden Painter, who put up six points.

Archbishop Bergan pushed their record up to 5-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 24.2 points. As for South Sioux City, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season.

Archbishop Bergan didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 66-49 defeat against Cedar Catholic on the 4th. As for South Sioux City, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 77-43 loss against St. Albert on the 4th.
