Baseball Game Preview: River City Raiders vs. Wood Wildcats

The River City Raiders will face off against the Wood Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. River City is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.

On Tuesday, River City needed a bit of extra time to put away Wood. They came out on top against the Wildcats by a score of 5-1.

Nick Rodriguez was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in February. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two).

Rodriguez wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kamden Wilkes, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple was Wilkes' first of the season.

River City has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. Wood is on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-7.
