Basketball Recap: Lamar Comes Up Short

Lamar extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping them down to 7-7. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 52-50 heartbreaker at the hands of the Westside Wolves. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Texans have suffered against the Wolves since December 9, 2022.

As for Westside, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-10 record this season. 52 seems to be a good number for them as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.

Westside's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Garlynn Grant led the charge by almost dropping a double-double with 25 points and nine boards. Grant also grabbed five steals, which is notable because the Wolves are 6-2 when she posts at least five steals, but 2-8 otherwise. Jaleyah Reed was another key player, shooting 60% from the field to rack up 13 points and five rebounds.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Lamar will take on rival Wisdom at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Westside is set to challenge their familiar foe Bellaire at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
