Preview: St. Andrew's Lions vs. Bulloch Academy Gators
Two dominant backs in Richaard Williams and Isaiah Smart are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The St. Andrew's Lions will head out on the road to face off against the Bulloch Academy Gators at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
Last Friday, St. Andrew's came up short against Pinewood Christian and fell 35-27.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Amari Cook, who rushed for 116 yards and a touchdown on only 12 carries. Williams was in the mix too, providing St. Andrew's with two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Bulloch Academy put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They strolled past Frederica Academy with points to spare, taking the game 35-21.
Bulloch Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ben Aaron led the charge by rushing for 139 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.7 yards per carry. Danye Garvin also helped out as he racked up 116 rushing yards.
St. Andrew's defeat dropped their record down to 5-3. As for Bulloch Academy, their win was their eighth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 8-0.
Friday's match might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. St. Andrew's has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 237.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Bulloch Academy struggles in that department as they've been even better at 338 per game. It's looking like Friday's match might have some serious battles in the trenches.
St. Andrew's didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Bulloch Academy when the teams last played back in October of 2022, but they still walked away with a 30-26 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for St. Andrew's since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
