Softball Recap: Hutsonville/Palestine Snags Eighth Victory in Last Ten Games

Hutsonville/Palestine had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the eight-run drubbing they dealt Martinsville on Monday. The Tigers put the hurt on the Bluestreaks with a sharp 8-0 win. Considering the Tigers have won nine matches by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Hayden Monan was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over seven innings pitched. Monan was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one double, and one RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.

In other batting news, Ayla Cook and Brynn Griffin did most of the damage at the plate: Cook went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Griffin went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Gracie Alumbaugh, who earned two runs and two stolen bases.

Hutsonville/Palestine is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 7.8 runs. As for Martinsville, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-6.
