Softball Recap: Clifton Has No Trouble Against Eastside

Clifton won the last time they faced Eastside and things went their way on Monday too. The Mustangs were the clear victors by a 22-3 margin over the Ghosts. Considering the Mustangs have won six contests by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Andrea Cedeno made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Cedeno was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one double. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Casey Mullen was a standout: she got on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in hits (three). Josephine Zagorski was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, four RBI, and one double.

Clifton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .634. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The victory made it two in a row for Clifton and bumps their season record up to 6-7. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games. As for Eastside, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-10 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Clifton is set to face off against their familiar foe Bergen Tech at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Eastside will take on rival Kennedy at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
