Baseball Recap: Gulf Buccaneers vs. Gibbs Gladiators
After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Pasco, Gulf was happy to have turned things around on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Gibbs Gladiators a 15-0 shutout. Considering the Buccaneers have won three contests by more than 14 runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Jaidon Sopjack was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 12 over four innings pitched. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.

In other batting news, Jared White and Diego Cruz did most of the damage at the plate: White scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Cruz scored three runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Gulf is 3-1 when Cruz posts two or more runs, but 2-4 otherwise. Josh Wilcoxson was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
The win got Gulf back to even at 5-5. As for Gibbs, their loss was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gulf will venture away from home to face off against Fivay at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Gulf is facing Fivay at the right time seeing as Fivay is stuck on an 11-game losing streak. As for Gibbs, they are taking a road trip to take on Lakewood at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
