Baseball Game Preview: North Summit Braves vs. Duchesne Eagles

North Summit hasn't had much luck against Duchesne recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Braves will take on the Eagles at 3:30 p.m. North Summit has given up an average of 13.2 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

North Summit is headed into Friday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their eighth straight game on Tuesday. They came up short against North Sevier, falling 15-0.

Meanwhile, Duchesne earned an 11-7 victory over Monticello on Tuesday. With that win, the Eagles brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Caleb Thompson and Nashden Goodliffe were a major factor no matter where they played. Throwing, Thompson didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Goodliffe pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Thompson has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. At the plate, Thompson scored a run while going 3-for-4, while Goodliffe scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. Thompson has become a key player for Duchesne: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three hits, but 4-11 otherwise.

In other batting news, Rylann Butler was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Duchesne is 4-1 when Butler posts two or more runs, but 3-10 otherwise. Payson Davis also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

The victory made it two in a row for Duchesne and bumps their season record up to 7-11. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for North Summit, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-12.

North Summit suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Duchesne in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Braves avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
