Recap: John Marshall Lawyers vs. Lutheran West Longhorns
John Marshall kicked off their season on the road on Monday and hit a couple of potholes. They wound up on the wrong side of a tough 13-5 walloping at the hands of the Lutheran West Longhorns. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for John Marshall in their matchups with Lutheran West: they've now lost three in a row.
For Lutheran West's part, Brendan Middendorf looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits.
On the hitting side, Bryce Groppe and Eric Dill did most of the damage at the plate: Groppe scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-5, while Dill scored a run while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Brandon Schneider, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. John Marshall will take on Wickliffe at 9:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Lutheran West, they will be playing at home against Streetsboro at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
