Softball Recap: South Gate Comes Up Short

South Gate lost against Chavez two weeks ago, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Rams fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 6-5. The Rams have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Veronica Esparza put in work while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Esparza wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Leah Jimenez, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

South Gate's defeat dropped their record down to 6-13. As for Chavez, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 5-8.

Looking ahead, South Gate will host Bell at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Chavez, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 6-4 loss against Vasquez on the 5th.
