Basketball Recap: Mark Simon Kafeero's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Pioneer Charter School of Science II over Excel Academy Charter

Pioneer Charter School of Science II lost against Excel Academy Charter back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Pirates took a 54-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wolves.

Several Pirates players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Mark Simon Kafeero, who posted 14 points. Another player making a difference was James Wallace, who scored nine points.

Pioneer Charter School of Science II's defeat was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Excel Academy Charter, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pioneer Charter School of Science II will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Notre Dame Cristo Rey at 6:00 p.m. on January 8, 2026. As for Excel Academy Charter, they will be home for the holidays to greet Boston Collegiate at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
