League recap: Guyton breaks off league-leading run for Rudder

4A Region III District 18 recap Sept. 26, 2012

Tre Guyton of Rudder ran for the longest rushing play in 4A Region III District 18 this season against Huntsville last week. Guyton ran for 67 yards on the play and finished with 167 on the day as his team lost to the Hornets.

Lofton Bean and Chris Platt provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Magnolia West. The longest such play in the league this season, the connection resulted in 82 yards.

Willis's dynamic duo of Bean and Platt proved tough for Magnolia West to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Bean threw for 306 yards and two touchdowns and Platt had 126 yards receiving. Dalton Jackson helped Willis' passing attack out by catching nine balls for 105 yards.

The Wildkats' Bean and Dillon Bauer have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Bean has thrown for 642 yards this season, while Bauer, a 5-foot-11 receiver, has 12 catches for 221 yards. Guyton from Rudder leads the league in rushing with 589 yards.

A big matchup in 4A Region III District 18 this week will be when Brenham takes on Shawn Bell's team. As it stands, the Cubs are in first, while Magnolia West is in third.

Montgomery was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from 10th to second in the league. Earlier in the week, the Bears triumphed over Caney Creek 41-20.
