Baseball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Croatan

Croatan had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the White Oak Vikings an 11-0 shutout. The Cougars have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Vikings, too.

Harrison Thomas was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Easton Taylor was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Nathan Miller was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

Croatan always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .517. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Croatan pushed their record up to 4-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for White Oak, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-3.

Croatan wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, an 11-9 loss against Wake County HomeSchool on the 22nd. As for White Oak, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 10-7 defeat against Swansboro on the 25th.
