Softball Recap: Thornton Fractional South Takes a Loss

Thornton Fractional South extended their losing streak to nine on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 1-18 in the process. They fell 9-5 to the Illinois Lutheran Chargers. The Red Wolves were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Chargers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2023.

As for Illinois Lutheran, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-8. With that win, they brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.

For Illinois Lutheran's part, Lola Spada made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched. Spada has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Emma Nagle, who went 1-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Azaylia Sanchez was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

While Thornton Fractional South had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
