The Steilacoom Sentinels will face off against the Franklin Pierce Cardinals at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Steilacoom has given up an average of 15 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Steilacoom came up short against Fife on Tuesday, falling 20-6.
Abigail Butterfield made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Izzy Cortez, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Franklin Pierce put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They put the hurt on Foss with a sharp 23-2 win.
Kallie Sullivan made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Sullivan was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 4-for-5.
In other batting news, Franklin Pierce let Laneigha Garcia and Leila Kennach run wild. Garcia fired off two home runs, seven RBI, and four runs while going 4-for-5, while Kennach went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and five RBI. The dominant performance also gave Garcia a new career-high in doubles (two). Elijah Brown was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI and one run.
Franklin Pierce kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits every time they've taken the field this season.
Franklin Pierce's victory bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Steilacoom, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-4.
Wednesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Steilacoom has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .503. However, it's not like Franklin Pierce struggles in that department as they've averaged .495. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Steilacoom might still be hurting after the 10-1 loss they got from Franklin Pierce in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Sentinels avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
