Softball Recap: Fort Bend Hightower Extends Home Winning Streak to Four

Fort Bend Hightower hadn't done well against Fort Bend Austin recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Fort Bend Hightower Hurricanes walked away with a 9-5 victory over the Fort Bend Austin Bulldogs. The Hurricanes haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Bailie Holts spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five runs (all of which were unearned) on ten hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Fort Bend Hightower got a big performance out of Kourtney Jones-Caldwell, who scored two runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Jones-Caldwell also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Amiyah Lee, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Fort Bend Hightower's victory was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-1-2. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Fort Bend Austin, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-8.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Fort Bend Hightower will welcome Ridge Point at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
