Softball Recap: Damonte Ranch Takes Down Ranked Galena

Damonte Ranch faced Galena in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Mustangs never let the Grizzlies get on the board and left with a 12-0 win. The victory was nothing new for the Mustangs as they're now sitting on four straight.

Madeline Wackowski and Olivia Mares did most of the damage at the plate: Wackowski went a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, two doubles, and one run, while Mares went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most runs Mares has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Savanna Esqueda, who went 2-for-4 with three runs and one triple.

Damonte Ranch always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .677. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in five consecutive matchups.

Damonte Ranch pushed their record up to 9-15 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Galena, they have been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 12 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-21-1 record this season.

As of now, neither Damonte Ranch nor Galena have any future games scheduled.
