Baseball Game Preview: Simla Cubs vs. Akron Rams

The Simla Cubs will take on the Akron Rams at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Simla sitting on 11 straight wins and Akron on five.

Simla is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Nucla, sneaking past 5-3.

Meanwhile, Akron got the win against Otis on Saturday by a conclusive 14-1. The result was nothing new for the Rams, who have now won 12 matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

Tucker Stahn made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Akron let Kolten Randel and Caleb Poss run wild. Randel went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Poss went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Randel is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Merek Charney, who earned one RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Akron always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .519 or higher in three consecutive games.

Simla's record is now 16-4. As for Akron, their record now sits at 19-4.

Simla couldn't quite get it done against Akron in their previous matchup back in March as they fell 8-4. Can the Cubs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
