The Chaparral Cowboys will square off against the Clark Chargers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Clark took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Chaparral, who comes in off a win.
Chaparral not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 14th. They were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over Amplus Academy. The game was the first time the Cowboys have beaten the Archers on their court since May 8, 2021.
Chaparral's got stronger as the match went on, holding Amplus Academy to fewer and fewer points set over set. The match finished with set scores of 25-22, 25-21, 25-18.
Meanwhile, Clark didn't have quite enough to beat Spring Valley on Wednesday and fell 3-2. The Chargers have struggled against the Grizzlies recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.
In an exciting match in which no team claimed back-to-back wins, Clark sadly wound up on the wrong side. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-19, 22-25, 25-20, 16-25, 15-10.
Chaparral will have to keep a close watch on Michael Chung and Theodore Birdsong, a pair of players who had a big impact on Clark's prior game. Chung had ten kills and five aces, while Birdsong had six kills and two blocks. Chung is on a roll when it comes to kills, as he's now had seven or more in each of the last five games he's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Ethan Kurian, who had 11 kills.
Clark's defeat dropped their record down to 1-11. As for Chaparral, their win bumped their record up to 8-9.
Everything went Chaparral's way against Clark in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Chaparral made off with a 3-0 victory. Do the Cowboys have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Chargers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
