Baseball Recap: Red Mountain Comes Up Short

After flying high against Mesa last Wednesday, Red Mountain came back down to earth. The Mountain Lions fell just short of the Skyline Coyotes by a score of 6-5 on Tuesday. The Mountain Lions were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Coyotes apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2025.

Drew Hanen was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in February.

On the hitting side, Derek Wilson was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Kale Thorson, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Red Mountain's defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 15-5. As for Skyline, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-8.

While Red Mountain had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
