Basketball Recap: Plainfield South Takes a Loss

Plainfield South was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They lost 69-44 to the Minooka Indians. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 311th, while the Indians are ranked 144th).

When it comes to explaining why Plainfield South lost, don't look at Layla Lesure. Despite the final result, she almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine rebounds. The match was Lesure's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Fathia Olagunju, who posted four points in addition to ten boards and five blocks.

Even though they lost, Plainfield South smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in ten consecutive contests.

Madelyn Kiper continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Minooka, going 6 for 11 from beyond the arc on her way to 28 points and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kendall Thomas, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine rebounds.

Plainfield South's defeat dropped their record down to 9-15. As for Minooka, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten games, which provided a massive bump to their 14-10 record this season.

Plainfield South will host Bolingbrook at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Plainfield South is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.9 points per game this season. Minooka has already played their next matchup, an 80-29 victory against Hinsdale South on the 25th.
