Softball Game Preview: Montcalm Generals vs. Mount View Golden Knights

The Montcalm Generals will head out on the road to challenge the Mount View Golden Knights at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Montcalm is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak.

Montcalm fell victim to Princeton and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They came up short against the Tigers, falling 8-0.

Meanwhile, Mount View got the win against River View on Monday by a conclusive 21-3. Considering the Golden Knights have won 14 games by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Phoebe Dudgeon made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Shiann Carter was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Malayah Barnes, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple.

Mount View always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .658. They are a perfect 12-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Mount View has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Montcalm, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-11.

Montcalm couldn't quite finish off Mount View in their previous matchup two weeks ago and fell 11-9. Can the Generals avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
