Basketball Game Preview: Fountain Central Mustangs vs. Crawfordsville Athenians

The Fountain Central Mustangs will challenge the Crawfordsville Athenians at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Fountain Central is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.

Fountain Central is headed into the contest having just suffered their closest loss since February 1, 2024 on Saturday. They fell just short of Seeger by a score of 48-45. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Mustangs have suffered against the Patriots since January 16, 2021.

Crawfordsville fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back wins it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They came out on top against North Montgomery by a score of 42-33 last Saturday. That nine point margin sets a new team best for the Athenians this season.

Crawfordsville's win came from a few key players Fountain Central will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Mason Mccarty, who posted 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Johnovan Smith, who put up nine points.

Crawfordsville has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a massive bump to their 4-7 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.2 points per game. As for Fountain Central, their loss dropped their record down to 3-8.

Fountain Central was able to grind out a solid victory over Crawfordsville when the teams last played back in February of 2024, winning 47-40. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Crawfordsville's Ethan Mclemore, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten rebounds.
