Recap: Sunnyside Blue Devils vs. Pueblo Warriors
The Sunnyside Blue Devils had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 38.8 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Wednesday. They came out on top against Pueblo by a score of 64-56. Given Sunnyside's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 19th, while Pueblo is ranked 66th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Sunnyside to victory were Ylena Gross and Nayeli Nidez-Acu?a. Gross scored 19 points, while Nidez-Acu?a dropped a double-double on 24 points and 24 rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Nidez-Acu?a has scored at least 25% of Sunnyside's points. Esabella Barajas was another key contributor, scoring 7 points.
Despite the loss, Pueblo saw an underclassman step up: America Cazares scored 17 points along with 8 rebounds and 3 steals. The contest was Cazares' eighth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Madison Williams, who scored 9 points.
Sunnyside pushed their record up to 9-1 with that victory, which was their third straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.0 points per game. As for Pueblo, their loss dropped their record down to 4-4.
Sunnyside and Catalina Foothills will face off at 7:00 p.m. on December 11th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Pueblo won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Coolidge at 7:00 p.m. on December 7th.
