League recap: Strong week lands Trumbull inside Connecticut top 25

Fairfield County league recap: 5/30/13

With a big week, Trumbull jumped into the top 25 in the state rankings. Trumbull moved up from No. 51 in the state all the way to No. 17 thanks to a 2-1 record over the past week. Led by manager Phil Pacelli, the Golden Eagles are ranked No. 2,840 in the nation with an overall record of 12-7.

The Golden Eagles outpaced the rest of Fairfield County this week, as their two total wins led Fairfield County. Trumbull beat Greenwich 3-1 and Greenwich 3-1.

Danbury's pitching staff had a strong showing this week, allowing only eight hits and three walks, both of which led the league.

Three batters hit over .400 this week. Leading the pack was Phil Sammon, who hit .667 by going 4-for-6.

The week's strikeout crown belonged to Joe Malley, who turned in five Ks for Ridgefield. With 47 strikeouts this year so far, he ranks first in the league.



Devin Martin struck out 11 in the Tigers' 2-1 win over Naugatuck on May 28. He gave up five hits and one run over seven innings of work.
