Football Recap: Marshfield Skates Past Mazama with Ease

A well-balanced attack led Marshfield over Mazama in every quarter on their way to victory on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Pirates blew the Vikings out of the water with a 49-6 final score. The result was nothing new for the Pirates, who have now won four games by 23 points or more so far this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Marshfield to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jaden Tice, who rushed for 157 yards and one TD on only 12 carries, and also picked up 42 receiving yards. Those 157 rushing yards gave Tice a new career-high. Another signal caller making a difference was Enoch Niblett, who threw for 236 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 82.4% of his passes.

Marshfield's run defense was locked in: Mazama could only muster 3.1 yards per carry. While two picked up at least six total tackles, Tice stood above the rest. He rushed for 157 yards and one score on only 12 carries, and also picked up 42 receiving yards. Marshfield didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 10.3.

Special teams was a major factor in the game for Marshfield, racking up 11 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Hadyn Widdicombe, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.

The victory keeps Marshfield at an undefeated 5-0. As for Mazama, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Marshfield is set to square off against their familiar foe Ashland at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 998 yards in their previous games. Meanwhile, Mazama will challenge rival Hidden Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
