Football Recap: Franklin Skates Past Coronado with Ease

Franklin barely beat Coronado the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Cougars took their matchup on Thursday with ease, bagging a 59-7 victory over the Thunderbirds. The Cougars have beaten the Thunderbirds the last eight times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Thunderbirds has come to flipping the script.

Ernie Powers was his usual excellent self, rushing for 388 yards and seven touchdowns while picking up 15.5 yards per carry. Those seven rushing touchdowns gave him a new career-high. Another back making a difference was Atreyu De La Riva, who gained 78 total yards and a touchdown.

Despite the loss, Coronado saw an underclassman step up: sophomore West Stansbury threw for 190 yards and one TD while completing 79.2% of his passes.

Franklin's record now sits at 4-1. As for Coronado, their defeat was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-4.
