Basketball Recap: Anson Comes Up Short

Anson was the 78-68 winner over West Stanly when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The Anson Bearcats fell just short of the West Stanly Colts by a score of 77-74 on Friday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Thursday (67), the Bearcats still had to take the loss.

When it comes to explaining why Anson lost, don't look at Jayden Little. Despite the final result, he went 15 for 21 on his way to 39 points along with eight boards and seven steals. Little is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last 38 games he's played dating back to last season. Taviane Robinson was another key player, dropping a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Anson smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 38 consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Anson's loss dropped their record down to 13-9. As for West Stanly, their victory bumped their record up to 10-13.

Coming up, Anson will welcome Forest Hills at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for West Stanly, they will venture away from home to square off against Piedmont at 7:30 p.m. on February 14th.
