Softball Game Preview: Texas Tigers vs. Melissa Cardinals

The Texas Tigers will challenge the Melissa Cardinals at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Texas is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.

Texas is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Lufkin just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Friday. They took a 10-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Panthers.

Cara Williams was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. Sydney King was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one RBI.

Meanwhile, Melissa put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Bentonville 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Cardinals have posted since February 17th.

Eloisa Maes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on nine hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Paisley Needham was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Hutton(Lulu) Adrian, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple.

Melissa pushed their record up to 29-0 with the victory, which was their 20th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs on average over those games. As for Texas, their defeat dropped their record down to 18-8-1.
