Basketball Recap: Elkhart Takes a Loss

Elkhart suffered their closest loss since November 26, 2024 on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Westwood Panthers by a score of 47-44. The Elks were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Panthers earlier this season, when they won 46-38.

Despite the loss, Elkhart still got an impressive performance from Shu'Nydeya Whitehead, who posted 14 points. Another player making a difference was Lilly Gay, who had 11 points.

Westwood was led to victory by Lyla Huddleston and Danika Aristide. Huddleston put up 20 points in addition to eight steals and seven boards, while Aristide went 6 of 11 to rack up 16 points and five rebounds. That makes it six consecutive games in which Huddleston has scored at least a third of Westwood's points. Paxtyn Coker also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

This is the second loss in a row for Elkhart and nudges their season record down to 9-20. As for Westwood, their record now sits at 6-17.

Elkhart didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 59-23 defeat against Fairfield on the 3rd. As for Westwood, they have also already played their next game, a 43-34 victory against Groesbeck on the 31st.
