Basketball Game Preview: Unalakleet Wolfpack vs. Nome-Beltz Nanooks

Unalakleet is 1-9 against Nome-Beltz since January of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Unalakleet Wolfpack will venture away from home to take on the Nome-Beltz Nanooks at 7:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Unalakleet sitting on five straight wins and Nome-Beltz on 19 (dating back to last season).

Unalakleet's tournament run continued when they took on Tikigaq on Saturday. Unalakleet blew past Tikigaq 70-38. The Wolfpack have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four matches by 30 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, Nome-Beltz was able to grind out a solid victory over South Anchorage on Saturday, taking the game 66-56. Given the Nanooks' advantage in MaxPreps' Alaska basketball rankings (they are ranked first, while the Wolverines are ranked 32nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Unalakleet pushed their record up to 7-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.4 points per game. As for Nome-Beltz, their victory bumped their record up to 9-0.

Unalakleet ended up a good deal behind Nome-Beltz in their previous matchup two weeks ago, losing 64-45. Can Unalakleet avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
