Basketball Game Preview: Seymour Panthers vs. Nocona Indians

Seymour hasn't had much luck against Nocona recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Seymour Panthers will square off against the Nocona Indians at 4:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Nocona is hoping to do what Petrolia couldn't on Tuesday: put an end to Seymour's winning streak, which now stands at five games. Seymour claimed a resounding 70-25 victory over Petrolia. Given the Panthers' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 282nd, while the Pirates are ranked 1148th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Nocona). They breezed by Petrolia to the tune of 104-26 on Friday. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 66-15.

Nocona's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-5. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.6 points per game. As for Seymour, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 20-5 record this season.

Seymour took a serious blow against Nocona when the teams last played back in January of 2024, falling 76-35. Can Seymour avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
