Baseball Recap: Grapeland Starts Season with Win on the Road

Grapeland had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They put the hurt on the Oakwood Panthers with a sharp 15-0 victory on Monday. The win was some much needed relief for the Sandies as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak dating back to last season.

Gabe Deleon and Edy Lopez did most of the damage at the plate: Deleon scored three runs and stole Four bases. while going 4-for-4, while Lopez went 3-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. The dominant performance gave Deleon a new career-high in runs. Diego Fajardo was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

Oakwood's defeat dropped their record down to 4-4-2.

Looking ahead, Grapeland will square off against Cayuga at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Oakwood, they will challenge North Zulch at 4:30 p.m. on March 18th. This will be Oakwood's first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
