Game recap: Cedar Grove High School Football Team takes down Central

NEWARK, N.J. - Cedar Grove (N.J.) extended its winning streak to six games with a 37-0 victory over Central (Newark, N.J.) on Saturday.

The Panthers were up 23-0 at the half after taking the lead on a Joe Slattery touchdown pass to Ryan Fitzpatrick in the first quarter.

Cedar Grove expanded its lead to 37 points entering the fourth quarter. CG scored two times in the third, including once on a touchdown run by Ben Schumacher.

The Panthers' standout player in the win was Paul Rufo. The junior wide receiver caught one touchdown and kicked one field goal and four extra points. He has now scored six touchdowns on the season.

The Blue Devils came in surrendering 14.9 points per game this season. Central struggled against Cedar Grove's offense, which entered the game scoring 32.4 points per game. CG went into the matchup giving up only 16.9 points per game.



The Panthers also won the meeting between the two teams last season, 46-16.

In a Super Essex - Colonial game next week Central (5-3) takes on Montclair Kimberley Academy, and Cedar Grove (7-1) will go up against Weequahic also in a Super Essex - Colonial game.
