Softball Game Preview: Myers Park Mustangs vs. Ardrey Kell Knights

Myers Park and Ardrey Kell are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2017, but likely not for long. The Myers Park Mustangs will face off against the Ardrey Kell Knights at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.

On Tuesday, Myers Park came up short against Legion Collegiate Academy and fell 5-2.

Anna Eason spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Myers Park saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Regan Godman, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Ryann Rempson also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Ardrey Kell). They never let Berry get on the board and left with a 21-0 victory on Tuesday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Knights with their most commanding win of the season.

Jenna Volturno looked comfortable as she tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the first time she hasn't allowed a single hit since back in April of 2024.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Tessa Sanchez-Barrios, who scored four runs while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in runs. Another player making a difference was Reilly Cusimano, who scored four runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Ardrey Kell hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most four strikeouts in three consecutive games.

Ardrey Kell's win ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-4. As for Myers Park, they now have a losing record of 2-3.

Myers Park suffered a grim 10-1 defeat to Ardrey Kell when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can Myers Park avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
