Basketball Recap: Rock Canyon Skates Past Ponderosa with Ease

Rock Canyon won the last time they faced Ponderosa and things went their way on Friday too. The Rock Canyon Jaguars really took it to the Ponderosa Mustangs for the full four quarters, racking up a 73-42 victory. Given the Jaguars' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 39th, while the Mustangs are ranked 169th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leading Rock Canyon to victory were Jacob David and Kasen Lehman. David went 10 of 17 en route to 25 points and eight boards, while Lehman went 6 for 8 on his way to 18 points along with seven assists and five steals. Those five steals gave Lehman a new career-high. Damian Fischer also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.

They weren't the only one working in the assists department: Rock Canyon was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Nolan Ripp and Ryan Tongren certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Ripp went 6 for 9 on his way to 15 points, while Tongren went 5 of 9 en route to 10 points and six rebounds.

Rock Canyon moved to 6-7 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Ponderosa, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season.

Rock Canyon didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 76-63 victory against George Washington on the 18th. As for Ponderosa, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, an 83-25 defeat against Mountain Vista on the 21st.
