Softball Recap: Prospect Comes Up Short

Prospect extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping them down to 7-8. They fell 6-2 to the Libertyville Wildcats. The Knights were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wildcats apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2022.

As for Libertyville, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-8. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games.

For Libertyville's part, Taylor Higham (Georgetown) made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. Higham (Georgetown) has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

In other batting news, Libertyville let Mckenna Weaver and Ava Podolski run wild. Weaver went 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI, while Podolski went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI.

Prospect will head out on the road to face off against Niles North at 4:45 p.m. on Monday. The Knights' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Vikings have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season. As for Libertyville, they will host Lake Zurich at 4:45 p.m. on Monday.
