Basketball Game Preview: Timpson Bears vs. Tenaha Tigers

The Timpson Bears will venture away from home to square off against the Tenaha Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Tenaha is hoping to do what Beckville couldn't on Friday: put an end to Timpson's winning streak, which now stands at four games. Timpson blew past Beckville 50-19.

Timpson found their leader in sophomore Cayt Jackson, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and ten steals. Jackson's evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Clarie Ham, who posted five points in addition to eight rebounds and eight steals.

Timpson smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in four consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Tenaha had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 23.5 points) and they went ahead and made it seven on Saturday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Yellowjackets 62-18. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 299th, while the Yellowjackets are ranked 1512th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Tenaha is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 21-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.5 points per game. As for Timpson, they now have a winning record of 13-12.

Timpson was able to grind out a solid win over Tenaha in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, winning 46-37. The rematch might be a little tougher for Timpson since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
