Baseball Game Preview: Smiths Station Panthers vs. Opelika Bulldogs

For the first time this season, Smiths Station will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will face off against the Opelika Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Smiths Station has struggled recently with three defeats in a row, while Opelika will arrive with three straight victories.

Smiths Station is headed into the match having just suffered their closest loss since March 4th on Friday. They fell just short of Stevenson by a score of 5-3.

Meanwhile, Opelika narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Pike Liberal Arts 2-1.

Opelika's victory bumped their record up to 18-8. As for Smiths Station, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-16.

Smiths Station came up short against Opelika in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, falling 8-4. Can Smiths Station avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
