Softball Game Preview: Davenport Wolves vs. Somerset Bulldogs

For the second straight game, Davenport will face off against Somerset. The Wolves will head out on the road to challenge the Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Davenport is coming into the game hot, having won their last five games.

Davenport is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 win over Somerset. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Wolves have posted since March 4th.

Harper Mcquade spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, KINLEY Keller and JORDYN Altmeyer did most of the damage at the plate: Keller got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Altmeyer went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Ashlynn Kennedy, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

Davenport pushed their record up to 21-7-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Somerset, their defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 17-13.

Friday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Davenport hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .356.
