Football Recap: Smithfield-Selma Comes Up Short + How To Watch

Smithfield-Selma extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 1-6. They were beaten by the Garner Trojans 71-0. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 273rd, while the Trojans are ranked 15th).

Noah Jeter threw for 29 yards on four of eight attempts. Jeremy Smith was his top target, picking up 29 receiving yards.

As for Garner, their victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-1. Their offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Garner to victory, but perhaps none more so than Christian Ormandy, who threw for 202 yards and four TDs while completing 86.7% of his passes, and also punched in one rushing score. The dominant performance also gave Ormandy a new career-high in passer rating (166). Jabari Lovick was another key rusher, rushing for 126 yards and a pair of scores on only six carries.

Coming up, Smithfield-Selma will be playing in front of their home fans against Southeast Raleigh at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Garner, they will challenge Cleveland at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Trojans will need to watch out since the Rams have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season.
