Softball Recap: Greenwood Takes a Loss

Greenwood had lost three straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 3-8 to make it four. They came up short against the Decatur Central Hawks, falling 15-4. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Hawks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-0 on Tuesday.

Gracelyn Bowles made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple and one run. Another player making a difference was Lilly Disney, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run.

As for Decatur Central, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-4. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Decatur Central's side, Reese Chapman looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off five hits. Chapman has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kenzie Cummings, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Charlie Baldwin, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and one triple.

Coming up, Greenwood will face off against Indianapolis Scecina Memorial at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Woodmen are facing the Crusaders at the right time seeing as the Crusaders are stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Decatur Central, they will square off against Guerin Catholic at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Hawks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Golden Eagles have averaged an impressive 6.5 runs per game this season.
